US woman makes miracle escape after 680kg rock crushes her leg

A woman in the US has had a lucky escape after an enormous rock weighing in at over 680kg fell on her leg at a US national park.
The 30-year-old European woman was hiking and climbing at the North Table Mountain Park in Golden, Colorado, when the 680kg boulder fell onto her leg.
She was hiking with a friend who stayed with her while a nearby hiker ran down the hill to call emergency services, Golden Fire Rescue said on Twitter.
The woman’s friend told Golden Fire Rescue he saw the boulder fall from around 10 metres above them.
The woman was trapped for a few hours before emergency services were able to free her from under the rock.
Rescue crews had to access the woman on foot, carrying equipment to lift the boulder and winch her into a helicopter.
They used hydraulic equipment and airbags to lift the rock from her leg.
The woman suffered multiple fractures and was in a critical condition when first responders reached her.
She was unconscious when she was transferred into the helicopter, but Golden Fire Recue said “her vitals are fairly good”.
