US Vice President Joe Biden flirts with 108-year-old war veteran

US Vice President Joe Biden has put his flirting skills to the test with 108-year-old Lucy Coffey, the oldest living female military veteran.

In video released by the White House, Biden begins by giving Coffey a warm welcome and telling her "a younger friend" also wants to meet her.

President Barack Obama then walks into the room and presents her with a special commander coin before saying goodbye.

"It reminds me of every time I had a good-looking date, there would be some better-looking guy coming along to dance with,'' Biden says when President Obama entered the room.

"But I'm the guy that loves you."

Coffey worked at a grocery store before joining the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps in 1943. She then earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a pair of bronze stars for her service.

Biden also showed her a picture of his late grandmother and gave her a stuffed dog that he said represented his own dog, Champ the German Shepherd.
