Florida men's plot to rape girl, 3, detailed in chilling text exchange

A mother discovered chilling details of how two men were allegedly plotting to "groom and rape" her three-year-old daughter after reading their text message exchange.

Florida police released details of how Lafe Best, 37 and Benjamin Worster, 39, texted each other over their plot, going into detail of how they planned to do it.

In one text message, Worster allegedly called the girl's mother "not a good mum" who ignores her daughter constantly and discussed items that would make kids "pass out" for a couple of hours.

Best, who allegedly responded "can't wait", was arrested last week and remains in custody without bond.

Worster was arrested last month on charges of lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious conduct and 21 counts of possession of child pornography.

Police were alerted to the plot after the girl's mother, who lived at Worster's apartment, found his phone lying on a bed and saw the message thread with someone called Lafe.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said a search of Best's house last week uncovered the text message exchange with Worster, as well as child pornography on his phone.

Police released the messages, along with the details of the men's arrest and their exchange, admitting it was difficult to put some of the posts on Facebook.

"We really do apologise to anyone who finds it offensive and disturbing," the post read.

"It absolutely is. The reason for posting it was not to shock or offend, but to show the type of grooming behaviour that takes place when a predator has access to a child."
