Turkey clarifies Erdogan will meet Pence

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet US Vice President Mike Pence in Ankara after all, his communications director Fahrettin Altun says.

Erdogan will not receive a US delegation that is visiting Ankara on Wednesday, Altun tweeted. But the president will meet the visiting team led by Pence on Thursday, he added.

Pence is travelling to Turkey on Wednesday in the hope of negotiating a ceasefire in northeast Syria.

This is Pence's first visit to Turkey and his delegation includes US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien.

Erdogan said he was yet to decide on whether or not to visit Washington next month.

US President Donald Trump invited him to the White House on November 13.

Erdogan told reporters in parliament that he will decide on his visit after the delegation from Washington holds talks in Ankara, state news agency Anadolu reported.
