A young US man has died after telling a teenage girl to shoot him in the chest while he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
Blake Wardell, 26, asked Taylor Ann Kelly, 18, to shoot him while he was wearing a flak vest in a garage in the state of South Carolina about 3am Wednesday.
The small-calibre handgun bullet fired by Kelly missed the Kevlar in the vest and hit Mr Wardell in the heart, killing him.
"They were going to shoot the victim with the vest on," Deputy Coroner Don McCown said.
"And he was shot in the chest, just above the vest."
About eight to ten people were in the garage at the time of the shooting, and authorities said there was no evidence of excessive alcohol of drug use.
Kelly has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter, a crime that carries a maximum five-year sentence in the state.
