US man dies instantly after setting off fireworks on head

An American man has died during Independence Day celebrations after putting fireworks on his head and setting them off.
Devon Staples, 22, was drinking with friends at a home in Calais, Maine, at around 10pm on Saturday night when the accident occurred, the Bangor Daily News reports.
Mr Staples placed a fireworks mortar tube on top of his head before lighting it, with the explosion killing him instantly.
It is the first reported fatality involving fireworks since they become legal in state of Maine in 2012.
Local officials said non-fatal injuries also occurred during private fireworks displays in Friendship, Lebanon, Jefferson, Woodstock and a separate incident in Calais., which caused burns and eye injuries.
