Trump visits golf club for 80th time

US President Donald Trump has made his 80th visit to the Trump International Golf Club-West Palm Beach in Florida since taking office, according to a calculation by broadcaster CNN.

The president is spending the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort nearby.

Trump has been at pains to spin his Florida sojourn as a working visit.

"Will be speaking to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey this morning about bringing peace to the mess that I inherited in the Middle East," he tweeted.

In a later tweet, Trump added that after the phone call with the Turkish leader, he would have a quick round of golf with professional golfers Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson.

"Then back to Mar-a-Lago for talks on bringing even more jobs and companies back to the USA!"

Before he became president, Trump would regularly berate his predecessor Barack Obama for playing golf and taking any time off.
