Road crews in California have been forced to use explosives to clear large boulders that had fallen and blocked a state road during a storm last week.

Caltrans District 9 released a video on their Facebook page this week that captured the large explosions.

"We have rocks that fell on the roadway that are too big for our equipment to remove, so we have to use explosives,"Mountain Area Superintendent Clint Weir said.

Supt Weir said ten boulders had to be exploded by crews in order to clear State Route 120, which runs through northern California.

The road has since reopened.
