A young woman in the US had ten of her teeth broken and her lips ripped apart after cat callers threw a metal pipe at her face as she sat in a car.

Jessica Byrnes-Laird, 18, was wearing a bikini as she waited for her boyfriend who was shopping inside a Louisiana convenience store after a day at the beach, KTBS reports.

A group of up to five men reportedly harassed the teen as she sat in the car waiting.

Footage of the July 26 incident shows her boyfriend become involved in a fight with the cat callers when he returns to the car.

During the attack Ms Byrnes-Laird said a metal pole was hurled through the car's open window, hitting her in the mouth.

"I looked down and saw my teeth in my hand and I immediately gushed blood ," she said.

The teen said at least ten of her teeth were broken in the attack that also saw the top of her lip ripped from her face and a tooth cut her lower lip.

The unprovoked attack has left the 18-year-old frightened.

"There's a little bit of fear, honestly, because going through this make you realise how delicate life is, and you never know what can happen," Ms Byrnes-Laird said.

"Things happen so suddenly, without warning."

On top of other medical expenses the teenager now requires at least four tooth implants, which cost $2375 each.

Ms Byrnes-Laird's mother has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs.
