Teacher wrongly handcuffed while students filmed

An American high school teacher who was mistakenly handcuffed by police on a school excursion told her students to film the aggressive ordeal.

Brandi Byrd was on her way back from a Holocaust museum in Washington DC when police grabbed her in the subway, New York Daily News reports.

"Record this, because I haven't done anything," Ms Byrd told her class as she was arrested.

She was pushed against a wall and detained for 20 minutes while her 15 students stood by and filmed.

Police said they were responding to reports of an assault and some of the students matched the suspects' descriptions.

"At no point did the gentleman who put me in handcuffs tell me why I was in handcuffs," Ms Byrd said.

"I told him who I was: 'I'm a teacher. These are my students. We're returning from a field trip'."
