'Spoilt' teen gets university scholarship

The 'spoilt' New Jersey teenager who sued her parents claiming they failed to pay for her education has now landed a $60,000 university scholarship.

Rachael Canning, 18, who dropped the bizarre lawsuit against her mother and father last month took to Facebook to brag about the scholarship she won to study biomedical engineering major at Western New England University.

"Decision made. WNE U class of 2018 BME Major w/ 56,000$ scholarship," read the Facebook post.

The post had more than 145 likes before it was removed or restricted to the public.

The university has confirmed that Ms Canning was accepted into the private school.

Tuition at the school rounds out to around $49,700 per year, including room and board.

This would leave Ms Canning with nearly $11,000 in spending money.

In her lawsuit against her parents, Ms Canning claimed her mother called her "fat" and "porky", which led to the girl suffering an eating disorder at a young age.

She also claimed her father, a former police chief, used to get drunk and kiss her inappropriately.

During the trial, the former high school student stayed with her best friend, the daughter of attorney John Inglesio, who reportedly encouraged Ms Canning to file the suit and spent thousands to help her.
