The safety boxes allowing US parents to abandon their babies

Fire stations in the US mid-west have installed a series of safety boxes allowing parents to anonymously abandon unwanted newborns.
The Safe Haven Baby Boxes notify emergency services when infants are placed inside the padded climate controlled boxes, AP reports.
The two $2000 boxes at Indiana's Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department and Michigan's Coolspring Fire Department are the first of 100 earmarked for the state.
Under the US Safe Haven law children can be given up by parents without fear of legal repercussions.
Volunteer firefighter in Woodburn Fire Department Monica Kelsey said the boxes should reduce the number of newborns abandoned in dangerous areas.
"This is not criminal," Kelsey said.
"This is legal. We don’t want to push women away."
