A homeless US woman has tearfully admitted on television she would rather feed her illegal drug habit than her unborn baby.

Niki, 25, told Dr Phil she had become hooked on heroin seven years ago and had now turned to prostitution to feed her $600-a-day habit.

“All the money I make goes straight back on drugs. I would rather feed my drug habit than my unborn child,” Niki – eight months pregnant - said in a video while shooting up.

The young Florida woman’s admission addressed the prevalent nature of the drug in the US and its highly addictive properties.

Niki and her fiancé Jessey, who live in a van, appeared on the CBS program after her mother learnt she had been selling her body for three years.

The expectant mother told Dr Phil her prostitution supported her habitual drug use and that her clients know she is eight months pregnant.

Niki said while she was 90 percent sure Jessey was the father of her unborn child there was a chance it could belong to a client.

A video of Niki passed out on heroin while being supported by Jessey was played for her distraught mother and sister.

“Right now she is really high. She’s going to be okay. When she starts getting bad is when her lips get blue-ish, darker,” Jessey said.

“Like four or five times she’s OD’d and I’m scared we’re going to lose her or lose the baby. That’s why we need you, Dr Phil, to help us.”

Jessey said he had never used heroin before meeting Niki and had planned to help wean her off the drug.
