Police body camera films the moment an officer is shot

A US police officer's body camera recorded the moment he was shot outside an apartment complex in Cincinnati while responding to a domestic violence disturbance.

Officer Kenneth Grubbs and his partner William Kuepper were called to the Gilbert Avenue apartment building on March 13 after a woman contacted police for help.

When the policemen arrived they saw the woman and her partner Damion McRae in the middle of an argument.

McRae pulled out a concealed weapon as Grubbs approached him and shot the officer once in the abdomen before his gun jammed.

The wounded officer fell the ground but still managed to fire 17 shots at McRae.

Grubbs then reloaded his gun and kept it trained on the injured shooter until back up arrived.

“The fact that he was able to continue, even after being shot, to defend himself and his partner. I think it demonstrates a tremendous job and a very well-trained police officer," Chief Eliot Isaac told local media, cincinnati.com reports.

McRae was shot up to five times, twice in the head.

Both he and Grubbs survived their injuries.

McRae was charged with a litany of crimes including attempted murder. He currently faces at least 20 years behind bars.
