Servo worker fired over viral quitting note

An overnight petrol station worker has been fired after a simple note he wrote telling his boss he was done waiting for her to show up went viral.

When Joe Blumm's shift at the West Michigan BP station ended last Thursday morning, his boss never showed up to take over for him.

After waiting for more than an hour, Mr Blumm decided to leave a note to his manager, telling her that was "unacceptable" not to let him know if she was going to be "+1hr late".

The note went on: "Fire me if you must, but realize I walked due to your negligence."

He stuck the note to the shop's front window along with a 'help wanted' sign and walked off.

Mr Blumm never expected what would happen next.

After a passer-by spotted the note and posted it to viral news site Reddit, Mr Blumm became something of a hero.

"I know I struck a chord with a lot of disgruntled low paid employees who get the short end of the stick," Mr Blumm told Fox 17.

"I had it," Mr Blumm said. "I had enough of that unprofessional atmosphere, having to deal with that tardiness and have it come down on me."

Now Mr Blumm is hoping his new-found internet fame will help him find a new job.

"Hopefully with all the publicity that could be a reality," Mr Blumm said.

"I would love to have a different job, something a little bit higher paying I would hope."

As for the manager, she admitted she was late Thursday morning but also claimed Mr Blumm never called her.
