Pandemonium as US teen sets new Rubik's Cube record

A group of teens have lost their minds as if the new Star Wars film had leaked online when an American speedster set a new Rubik's Cube world record.

Pandemonium broke out when teenager Colin Burns solved the puzzle in a breathtaking 5.253 seconds at the World Cube Association competition in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

As an awestruck Burns sat looking at the completed cube while the realisation of what he had accomplished sunk in, chaotic scenes erupted around him.

The teens clapped, jumped up and down and embraced the newly-crowned world record holder.

Burns' time of 5.253 seconds bettered the previous record set by Dutch cubist Mats Valik, who set a time of 5.55 seconds in 2013.
