Oil workers film approaching tornado

Most people would run when confronted with a tornado but a group of US oil workers laughed and joked until the destructive mass of swirling of winds was on top of them.

The men were staying at a workers camp in North Dakota on Monday when the tornado appeared on the horizon.

Rather than fleeing, some of the workers began filming the twister as it closed in, eventually taking refuge in a car where they continued their expletive-laden commentary.

"Holy s---!," one of the men says as they watch the towering vortex.

The tornado soon darkens the sky as it whips up strong winds that pick up small pieces of debris.

With the force of nature virtually on top of them the men finally decide to flee.

They made their move in the nick of time, the camp was destroyed a short time later, injuring nine people.

15 trailers were destroyed by winds that reached speeds of up to 190km, according to reports.
