NYE twins born in different years
You mightn't know Gabriela and Sophia Salgueiro are twins — the timing of their births means the baby girls were apparently born years apart.
Gabriella, who arrived slightly before midnight on New Year's Eve, was the last baby born in 2013 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Canada, while Sophia was one of the first born in 2014, coming just seconds after the clock struck 12.
So even though the fraternal twins were born just 8 minutes apart, they'll have separate birthdays in different years.
"They are getting all the attention," the girls' mother Lindsay Salgueiro told CTV News from her hospital bed.
She joked to ABC News that the girls' different birthdays are a "golden ticket" that ensures "they're going to be best friends for life".
Ms Salgueiro, whose due date was not until January 19, added that the girls are "healthy and doing well".
Another set of twins born at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC also had their birth dates split by the new year.
At 11:58pm on December 31, 2013, Yaleni Santos Tohalino gave birth to baby girl Lorraine Yaleni Begazo, who was followed by her brother Brandon Ferdinando Begazo at 12:01am on January 1, 2014.
"We really did celebrate New Year's Eve," said the girls' father Warren Begazo.
