Note tears into elderly couple's lawn park

An elderly US couple is trying to track down a real estate agent who claimed they were ruining the neighbourhood's market values by parking on their own lawn.

Bill and Barbara Doughten, who are both in their late 70s, received a handwritten letter at their home in New Jersey on Tuesday.

The note, unsigned and with no return address, read: "I'm trying to sell million dollar homes in the neighborhood. I drive my clients around and they see your car parked sideways on the front lawn! You have a driveway - use it!"

The letter enraged the Doughtens.

"It's like a sneak attack," Mr Doughten told NBC.

"No name. They didn't say who they were."

Their granddaughter, Stephanie Powley, has since posted the letter on Facebook where it has garnered hundreds of shares.

"I have to say, that I have seen sales people do some pretty scum bag things in my life, but this may take the cake," she wrote.

"I hope someone recognises your handwriting so that your wife (long shot that you have one), your boss or even YOUR GRANDPARENTS know who you are."

Mr Doughten, who suffers from a bad leg, said he parks his car on the grass so he can be closer to the front door when he brings in groceries.

The couple said they do not intend on changing the way they park just because of one anonymous note.
