Officials say all 17 miners who were stuck in an elevator 274 metres underground at a New York state salt mine have been rescued.

Cargill Inc spokesman Mark Klein says the miners were raised to the surface in a basket on Thursday morning at the company's mine in Lansing.

Klein has said the miners were not in danger.

Klein says the miners got stuck on Wednesday night while descending to the floor of the mine to start their shift.

He says emergency officials were able to communicate via radio with the miners, who had blankets, heat packs and other supplies lowered to them.
