Man to hold 'bully' sign in public punishment

A US man convicted of harassing his neighbour and her disabled children has been ordered to stand on a street corner with a sign saying that he is a bully.

As part of the unusual punishment, 62-year-old Edmond Aviv, of South Euclid, Ohio, must hold the sign for five hours on Sunday.

"I AM A BULLY!" a judge ordered the sign to read.

"I pick on children that are disabled, and I am intolerant of those that are different from myself. My actions do not reflect an appreciation for the diverse South Euclid community that I live in."

The judge also ordered that sign's text be large enough to be viewed from up to eight metres away.

Aviv was sentenced last month to a misdemeanour charge of disorderly conduct over a feud with his neighbour Sandra Prugh spanning 15 years.

According to court documents, Aviv regularly subjected Prugh to ethnic slurs while she was holding her adopted black children, spat on her several times, regularly threw dog faeces on her son's car windshield and once smeared faeces on the family's wheelchair ramp.

Prugh has two adult adopted children with developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy and epilepsy; a husband with dementia; and a paralysed son, the Plain Dealer of Cleveland reported.
