“The young man met a girl, brought her up to a rooftop and decided to impress her by leaping from one roof to the next,” Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In a four-hour rescue effort, emergency crews cut a hole through the wall of the restaurant in order to reach the stranded student

Mr Birdsong was eventually pulled through the wall by emergency crews, giving a thumbs up to reporters as he was wheeled out on a stretcher.

Paramedics transported him hospital with an ankle injury, the newspaper reported.

It’s not known whether he managed to impress his date.
