US man arrested after driving through Pittsburgh with man on his bonnet

A man in the US was arrested on Sunday night after driving more than 17 kilometres with another man clinging to the bonnet of his four-wheel drive.

Pennsylvania State Police allege Dwayne Harvard, 46, was arguing with Steven Sutton, 36, before getting into his vehicle and attempting to run him over.

Instead of getting crushed by the weight of the Ford Explorer, Mr Sutton was able to hang on to the vehicle's bonnet as Mr Harvard and his passenger drove away.

However, despite driving through several Pittsburgh communities with Mr Sutton on his front bonnet, Mr Harvard claims that he was the victim.

"He took a cinder block and he was trying to hit the truck," Mr Harvard told WTAE News.

"I said, 'calm down. You put the block down.'"

"I called 911 myself and I let him know who I was."

Speaking with WPXI News, Mr Harvard's passenger - who identified herself as Mr Sutton's girlfriend - supported the driver's version of the story.

"We did try to stop the vehicle. He got completely violent like he was going to kill us both. Nobody in their right mind would stop the vehicle," Anna Mazzetti said.

"I was in fear for my life," Mr Harvard added.

Mr Harvard was arrested on the scene and evaluated for drug use.

He was unable to post his $6495 bail amount and faces a preliminary hearing on May 4.
