Kellyanne Conway ‘meant no disrespect’ by kneeling on Oval Office sofa

Donald Trump’s counsellor Kellyanne Conway says she “meant no disrespect” when she was photographed kneeling on a sofa in the Oval Office.

Ms Conway and Mr Trump were meeting with leaders of historically black universities and colleges (HBCUs) to share “expert insights on policy issues impacting their individual campuses,” the White House said.

Prior to the meeting, the group met in the Oval Office and Ms Conway was attempting to take a picture of them “to chronical this significant event,” the Washington Post reports.

“I was asked to take a certain angle and was doing exactly that,” she told Fox America’s business network host yesterday.

“I certainly meant no disrespect, I didn’t mean to have my feet on the couch.”

Ms Conway later told the newspaper it shouldn’t have been her that made the headlines during the event.

“Coverage should rightly be on the actual visit and the incredible, important work of these men and women at HBCUs,” Ms Conway told the newspaper.
