Hydroplane flips in high-speed crash

Dramatic footage has emerged of a hydroplane (jet boat) hurtling through the air in a high-speed crash in the US.

In the video the U-9 Team Red Dot Spirit hydroplane is sent airborne after hitting a wave during the third lap of Detroit's Belle Isle Gold Cup races.

The wind sends the vessel into a violent spin, turning it almost full circle before it comes crashing back down.

Driver Jon Zimmerman appeared unharmed as he exited the medical station at the racecourse, before speaking to a crowd that had gathered outside.
