Bill O'Reilly: Fox News dumps senior news anchor over sexual harassment allegations

Fox News has severed its relationship with Bill O'Reilly, dumping the most-watched cable news anchor in the United States over sexual harassment allegations and dwindling advertising.

"After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Bill O'Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel," 21st Century Fox said in a statement.

It comes after multiple allegations of sexual harassment were raised against the top-rated prime-time host, leading to settlements totalling US$13 million (A$17M)  with five different women, The New York Times revealed earlier this month.

Since then the 67-year-old’s show, The O’Reilly Factor, has haemorrhaged advertising sponsorship, with more than 50 advertisers pulling out from the show.

For News previously extended O’Reilly’s contract, despite being aware of the complaints by fellow co-workers.

O’Reilly has denied all allegations made against him.

He has worked as an anchor at Fox News since his appointment in 1996.
