Florida teen charged after dropping 68-year-old woman before throwing her into pool

A Florida teen recorded dropping a woman to the ground then throwing her into a pool is facing criminal charges after handing himself into police.

Video captured by an attendee at a community pool party in North Lauderdale on Saturday shows Nancy James, 68, attempting to intervene when she was allegedly assaulted by a stranger, Miami broadcaster WSVN reports.

Ms James said she was asking partygoers to lower the volume of their music following complaints by neighbours when a 16-year-old boy rushed over to grab her.

The video shows the teen attempting to lift Ms James before dropping her onto the concrete and falling down beside her.

Moments later the teen gets back up and carries Ms James body over to the pool and drops her in the water.

Partygoers fled the scene afterwards, with Ms James’s two dogs also running away amid the chaos.

Ms James suffered bruises to her shoulder and leg as a result of the alleged assault. She declined to be taken to the hospital.

The 16-year-old boy turned himself in on Monday after he was identified by a neighbour. He has since been charged with battery of a person 65 years of age or older.

The teen expressed remorse for his alleged actions to police, admitting he “messed up”.
