A man’s body has been found on a Florida lake shore reportedly in the jaws of an alligator.
“The Lakeland Police Dept is on the scene of an alligator incident in Lake Hunter,” the Lakeland Police Department posted to Facebook.
“A citizen saw what appeared to be a body in its mouth. The alligator swam off and the body has been recovered.
“No identification has been made yet on the body. FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife) is at the scene as well as a trapper.”
Police said there was no confirmation on how the man had died or whether he had been attacked by the animal at all.
Police also said the body appeared to have been in the water for at least 24 hours and there were no missing persons reports in the area.
A witness said the alligator had been swimming across the lake with the man’s body in its jaws, reported NBC News.
