Firefighters rescue baby abandoned inside dark US daycare centre

Firefighters have rescued a one-year-old girl who was locked inside a deserted US daycare centre.

Journee Jones’ father called for help after he arrived at the Chicago centre to pick up his daughter and heard her crying from behind the locked doors of the All Things Are Possible for Kids centre, ABC 22 Now reported.

Video footage shows crews busting open the door, and torchlight illuminating the crying toddler, who was crawling around the dark room.

“So many things was crossing my mind when I was hitting the door and I heard her screaming,” Mr Jones said.

“I didn't know what was going on.”

Mr Jones said realising his daughter had been confined to a dark room alone was heart-breaking.

“The police had the flashlight down and the only thing I could see was my baby crawling on the floor,” he said.

The local Department of Children and Family Services has launched an investigation into the incident, and the daycare has not yet commented on the matter.
