A music film director was at hand to capture a disturbing meltdown on a US Airways plane when a woman started screaming obscenities before takeoff for no apparent reason.

Filmmaker Mike Irving captured the unsettling scene on the tarmac at Los Angeles as the woman walked onto the plane and started lashing out at airport staff, the NY Daily News reports.

The video, filmed on Irving's iPhone from a few rows back, shows the woman threaten to sue and tell a security guard he will lose his job for trying to forcibly remove her from the flight.

"I didn't do anything," she screams. "You're f------ harassing me."

At one point she yelled out that she was bipolar, Irving said.

"I don't know if she was excited or happy or scared. She was swearing a lot."

The woman was escorted off the plane and taken into police custody but there are no reports of any charges.
