New York explosion 911 caller promised 'there will be more'

An anonymous 911 caller claiming to be at the scene of the Manhattan bombing that injured in 29 this weekend warned dispatch "there will be more".

The explosion, which ripped apart a skip bin in Chelsea, is believed to have been caused by a "pressure-cooker bomb", possibly triggered by a mobile phone.

"I'm looking at the explosion down the block," the caller said on the emergency line, before making his ominous promise.

Whether or not he is one of two men being interviewed by police over the incident is unknown, though witnesses in the Krush bar and grill say the saw an "Arab-looking man" carrying a suitcase about half-an-hour before the blast.

According to the New York Post, the man "appeared out of place".

It seems the caller's assertion that there was more to come was not made in vain.

An unexploded device was found by a photographer about four blocks from the  scene of the blast, which she described as looking so amateurish – like a "kid's science project" – that she almost didn't bother to report it to police.

"I had heard the explosion, but I thought it was thunder," travel snapper Jane Schreibman told the Post.

"It had duct tape, and wires going into the cell phone or remote of some sort. But I couldn’t tell because it was all wrapped up in tape," she said.

All 29 people injured in the explosion were released from hospital yesterday, and authorities are working to identify a suspect or suspects.

A separate explosion happened during a Marine Corps charity run in the neighbouring state of New Jersey on the same day. No one was injured.
