Tough granddad knocked out of shoes in ruthless hit and run

A US grandfather mowing his son's lawn managed to walk away with only bruises after being hit so hard by a passing car that he was blown out of his shoes.

Guadalupe Ballinas, a granddad to 15, was knocked out cold earlier this week when the minivan mounted the kerb in front of his boy's west Chicago home and hit him from behind.

"He was out for three minutes. He just got up and walked inside," Ms Ballinas's neighbour, Lettecia Salinas, told ABC .

"And then he finished mowing his lawn."

Ms Salinas's home security system caught proof of the incident, which easily could have been the end for Mr Ballinas, tough as he evidently is.

"We were pretty shocked when we saw it," Ms Salinas said.

Mr Ballinas says another witness managed to snap a picture of the van's numberplate, which he hopes will help bring the offender to justice.
