Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has reaffirmed Australia's commitment to efforts to deal with the worldwide migration crisis during a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Mr Dutton sat down with Filippo Grandi in New York on Sunday ahead of high-level summits on refugees at the United Nations on Monday and Tuesday (local time).

He reaffirmed the expansion of Australia's humanitarian intake program to 18,750 in 2018-19 but reiterated the government's border protection policies, including regional processing.
