A young intern has a lot of explaining to do after driving his boss's Maserati through a San Francisco bus yard where it got stuck in a maintenance pit.

The 21-year-old driver was allegedly drunk when he got behind the wheel of the $138,000 luxury sports car and took off with the top down, SF Weekly reported.

The 2011 Maserati Gran Turismo somehow got into the tight spot after it was driven through a municipal bus depot at 3.30am.

Witnesses said the sports car was driven into the service yard "at a high rate of speed" and it was lucky there were no injuries.

The intern, who is originally from Texas, told police he had permission to drive his boss's car but was booked for DUI.

The crash happened on May 20 but was only recently reported after the photos emerged.
