Driver smashes through busy US restaurant

The moment a 4WD driver accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake after smashing into a busy restaurant has been captured on surveillance camera.

The SUV smashed through the glass beside a table full of diners and proceeded to push them across the room, before eventually colliding with the bain-marie.

The accident took place at DiMassi's Mediterranean Buffet in Houston about 2pm yesterday local time (7am this morning AEDT).

"I heard, like, an airplane went on top of the roof," restaurant owner Eihab Aldaqamoni told KHOU-TV.

"I would never imagine something like that happen."

"As you see in the video, she came in and started going faster, so she said she hit the gas instead of the brake."

The driver was uninjured but ten others were hurt in the accident.
