US President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new “Super Intelligence Force” that he says will keep the country at the forefront of emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with co-ordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence, which many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet, and will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans,” Trump said in his post.

“The Super Intelligence Force will co-ordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organisations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies.”
Leading the force will be national intelligence director Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, under-secretary of war Emil Michael, and director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor.
They will report directly to Trump and to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
Trump in his second presidential term has been a champion of AI despite growing opposition to it from voters and warnings about its dangers from industry insiders.
In his recent address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump said it should be described as “super intelligence” and that remaining at the forefront of the industry was a US priority.
Tech boss Elon Musk backed the change on the weekend, posting on his social media platform X that SI was a better term.
Trump has also declared any reports about the dangers of AI as a “hoax”, even as reports emerge of online agents going road – including accessing an Australian federal government database.
OpenAI boss Sam Altman and Anthropic leader Dario Amodei have been among those industry leaders calling for more guardrails on development.
Trump hosted top AI executives at the White House last week including Google’s Sundar Pichai, Amodei, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, and Musk, where they signed an agreement to “self-police” the technology.
“I’m seeing tremendous self-policing, and they understand that they have to self-police,” Trump told reporters at the time.

“These models are very complex and, again, I believe they’re going to be used for the good.”
When asked about AI during his confirmation hearing to lead the US intelligence community, new SIF leader Clayton said the technology is a “game changer.”
“When something’s both an opportunity and a threat, you better get your arms around it,” he said.
