Dog found with switchblade in face
An anguished mother has choked back tears describing how her 11-year-old son discovered the family dog with a switchblade embedded in its face.
Graphic pictures taken by a US family show the Rottweiler mix, named "Girl", with a white-handled knife lodged just centimetres away from its eye.
The dog's owner Jackie Cross said that's how her son found the beloved pet on the front porch of their Georgia home before school on Tuesday morning.
"I wish that my kids didn't have to see that," Cross said through tears.
"My son went up to her and patted her head, and said 'It's going to be okay'."
Georgia police have arrested a local man Brando New in connection with the stabbing and charged him with aggravated abuse towards an animal.
A vet was able to remove the knife and close up the wound, and Girl is expected to make a full recovery.
It is still not known why the dog became the victim of such a cruel attack.
The family say Girl has never shown any signs of aggression and suspect the dog may have intervened in a burglary.
