A quick-thinking teenager's desperate cry for help on Facebook may have saved her father's life, after severe storms left the family without a phone signal.

Brianna Vance's father Gregory was sitting on his Pecks Mill, West Virginia porch on Tuesday with two friends when a tree came crashing down, pinning the trio beneath its heavy trunk and limbs, WOWKTV reports.

Unable to call emergency crews on her mobile and with no landline, Brianna sent out a plea over social media to anyone listening.

"The lightning crashed and hit a tree by our porch and dad's almost dead," she said in the video post.

"He needs an ambulance please. Please call one for us if you have signal."

Her cries were answered, with emergency crews soon arriving to free the men.

"I was scared. I needed help. My dad needed help. So I had to post that," Brianna later explained to WOWKTV.

Brianna's father suffered a broken collar bone and five broken ribs but is expected to make a full recovery.
