Brock Turner is set to be released from jail on Friday

Brock Turner, the ex-Stanford University student convicted of sexual assault, will be released from prison on Friday, three months after being sentenced.

The now 21-year-old was put behind bars on June 2 after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman from Palo Alto, California, who was unconscious outside a fraternity house on the US university campus last year.

Brock was convicted of three felonies in March for assaulting the woman – including intent to commit rape of an intoxicated/unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person.

He was sentenced to six-months behind bars and will now be released after serving three.

The sentenced, handed down by Judge Aaron Persky, drew scathing criticism worldwide.

Judge Persky said his age and lack of criminal history were the reasons behind a reduced sentenced, saying a prison sentence “would have a severe impact on him.”

Last week,  the judge asked to be removed from future criminal cases.

There is expected to be a large protest outside the jail on Friday when Turner is released.
