Clumsy cop falls over while chasing clumsy suspect

An overweight police officer has fallen flat on his face trying to chase down a suspect in the US, but fortunately his target was even clumsier than him.

Witnesses travelling in a car alongside the chase captured the incident on a smartphone.

The footage shows the burly cop on foot chasing a man wearing shorts and a t-shirt through the suburbs of an unnamed American town.

The suspect runs through a front yard but trips, only for the officer to fall flat on his face behind him.

Both get to their feet and start running again, but the uncoordinated thief trips over in the gutter a further two times before the policeman is able to fall on him and put his considerable weight to good use by pinning him to the ground.

It is not known what the suspect did or if he faced any charges.
