Texas chemical warehouse blaze rages for two hours, triggers explosions

A huge fire at a chemical plant is Texas triggered explosions and sent huge plumes of smoke into the air as firefighters battled to contain the blaze.

The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office reported the incident on its Facebook page, confirming there had been “multiple explosions” at the facility which is around 64 kilometres north of Houston.

The fire was brought under control two hours after emergency services, including up to 50 firefighters and a Hazmat crew, arrived on the scene.

Marshal Jimmy William told CNN affiliate KPRC it is not yet known if there have been any injuries or casualties.

The building is owned by a company called DrillChem which creates products such as lubricants and sealants for the oil and gas industry.

Residents within a three kilometre radius of the plant have been advised to keep air conditioners turned off, close all vents, doors and windows and to stay indoors.
