Jenner, who challenged Mr Trump back in February for rescinding controversial transgender bathroom laws, took him to task again for going back on his pre-election promise to “fight for” her community.

“There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us. What happened to your promise to fight for them?” she tweeted earlier today.

Her message references another tweet by Mr Trump back in June of last year, thanking supporters in the LGBT community, claiming he would “fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs”.

Mr Trump announced today transgender people would not be able to serve in the military “in any capacity” due to the “tremendous medical costs and disruption” allegedly caused by their presence.

Jenner is among a score of other celebrities and politicians to speak out against the decision.

An estimated 2500 to 7000 transgender people are among the 1.3 million actively serving the US military.
