Brownstone singer dead in horrific freak accident

Charmayne Maxwell of US R&B outfit Brownstone has died after a freak accident at her Los Angeles home.

Maxwell, 46, fell and cut her neck on a wine glass on Friday, TMZ reports.

Her husband, Carsten Soulshock, and her son came home from a soccer match to find her on the ground, bleeding profusely.

Maxwell was rushed to hospital where she died from loss of blood.

Police that arrived at the scene found no trace of foul play, according to TMZ.

Maxwell's brother, Brandon, tweeted the news, shortly followed by bandmate Teisha Brown.

Mr Maxwell also debunked a rumour that his sister had committed suicide, writing on Twitter, "some people are just so dumb".

"This is just BS."

Brownstone's biggest hit was 'If You Love Me', which made it to number two on the US R&B charts in 1994 and was nominated for a Grammy.

The song peaked at number 13 on the Australian charts.
