Collette Moreno snapped a happy selfie as she drove to her own hens party — just minutes before dying in a fatal car crash.

The 26-year-old mother-of-one was being driven to the US town of Lake Ozark, Missouri by her best friend for a weekend of partying when they were hit by an oncoming vehicle while trying to overtake a truck last Friday afternoon.

Ms Moreno, from Kansas City, later died from her injuries.

Her fiance, Jesse Arcobasso, told local news network KCTV he is still distraught over the tragedy, just four weeks out from their wedding date in Jamaica.

He said her five-year-old son cannot comprehend where his mother is.

The bride-to-be had been sharing her excitement on Facebook about the hens weekend ahead.

Ms Moreno uploaded a photo showing her drinking wine and then the road selfie of her and best friend Ashley Theobald.

Ms Theobald, who survived the crash with minor injuries, said Ms Moreno had started suffering an asthma attack as they trailed a truck with heavy exhaust fumes so she had attempted to overtake it on a two-lane highway.

But there was a hill ahead that blocked their view of the oncoming vehicle.

"I swerved and he swerved with me," she told Fox News.

Both women were taken to hospital but Ms Moreno was pronounced dead three hours after the crash.

No one will be facing any charges over the incident, local police said.
