Man who spent $100k on surgery to look like Justin Bieber found dead in Los Angeles motel

A man who spent more than $100,000 to look like popstar Justin Bieber has been found dead in the US.

The body of Toby Sheldon was found in a Motel 6 in California's San Fernando Valley on August 21, TMZ reports.

The 35-year-old had been reported missing on August 18, with the Los Angeles Police Department saying his disappearance might have been triggered by a breakup with his boyfriend.

It is understood drugs were found in the hotel room but the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Sheldon, whose real name was Toby Strebel, underwent about 100 plastic surgery procedures in attempt to look like the Canadian-born singer and had appeared on reality shows such as Botched and My Strange Addiction.

He has had skin removed from his upper eyelid "to get (Bieber's) bright open eyes", surgery to his lips, his chin reduced and even hair transplants to bizarrely give him the sweeping bob hairstyle that Bieber had as a 16-year-old.

"I saw my face ageing, I didn't know what to do," Sheldon said in an episode of My Strange Addiction.

"It just gives me an elated kind of feeling to know that I look similar to him."
