Baby born with inoperable brain tumour defies doctors’ predictions

A baby born with an inoperable brain tumour and was not expected to live for more than a few weeks has stunned doctors by surviving more than two months.

Erika and Stephen Jones from Jacksonville, Florida were told 18 weeks into their pregnancy that their baby had shown multiple markers for Down syndrome.

Their 30 week ultrasound delivered a second crushing diagnosis – a tumour was growing inside their baby’s brain and replacing her brain tissue.

Abigail Noelle Jones was born on August 6, weighing just under 4kg. Her parents took her home to spend their final moments with her after doctors said the tumour was inoperable and would likely kill her.

They hired photographer Mary Huszcza to take some precious photos of the family in the time they had left.

Months later, Ms Jones has told ABC News it is impossible to tell anything is wrong. Abigail has had her feeding tube removed and is gaining weight.

“She is the chillest baby ever,” she said.

“She just loves to be held. She watches your face, tracks it with her eyes.”

She said every day that passes gives the family a little more hope.
