Armpit fire prank leads to rollover crash

Police in the US say a rollover car crash that saw two teenagers thrown from the vehicle was caused by a prank gone wrong that involved lighting the driver's armpit hair on fire.

When police attended the crash scene outside Boise, Idaho on early Sunday morning 18-year-old driver Tristian Myers told officers he swerved to avoid hitting an animal and lost control of his car, The Idaho Statesman reports.

However, the story quickly unravelled after other teens who were in the car told police conflicting stories.

A 16-year-old boy said he lit Myers armpit hair on fire before the crash that saw two girls aged 16 and 17 respectively thrown from the vehicle.

Despite none of the five teenage passengers wearing seatbelts none of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

Myers was charged with inattentive driving and one passenger was charged with distracting the driver.

"There was also evidence Myers was going too fast and driving erratically prior to the crash, which led to citation for inattentive driving," the police said in a statement.
