Urban Outfitters slammed over 'school shooting' sweatshirt

Urban Outfitters has come under fire for the sale of a Kent State University sweatshirt with what looks like blood stains, reminiscent of the deadly 1970 campus massacre.

On the US retailer’s website, the description for the “vintage” one-of-kind jumper read “Get it or regret it!” the Washington Post reported.

Yesterday, Urban Outfitters issued an apology claiming that it was “purchased as part of our sub-faded collection” and that the bright red stains were from “natural wear and fray”.

“We deeply regret that this item was perceived negatively,” the statement read.

The Kent State shootings by the Ohio National Guard left four students dead and injured nine others.

Some of the students shot dead had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign.

The university lashed out at the retailer’s decision to sell the sweatshirt and said it was in poor taste.

“We take great offense to a company using our pain for their publicity and profit,” the statement read.

Former student Dean Kahler, who was paralysed in the shooting, told Fox News that the sweatshirt “shows the continued low brow of Wall Street, and Urban Outfitters continues to perpetuate a low standard of ethics”.

The sweatshirt has been removed from the website.
