US policeman praised for giving dinner to homeless man

A US policeman has warmed hearts after a photo emerged of him handing a pizza and a drink to a homeless man.

Ohio policeman Jason Deaton, who has worked for the Middletown Division of police for more than eight years, was thanked for his selfless act by his co-workers when the division shared a photo of the moment to its Facebook page.

“This photo makes us sad and happy all at the same time,” the post reads.

“Do us a favor, be kind to each other, take some time today and pay it forward. You never know what someone may be going through.”

The photo has been liked and shared more than 5000 times by people touched by Officer Deaton’s kind heartedness.

Middletown Divison’s Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw told the Journal News he wasn’t surprised when he was told of Mr Deaton’s actions.

“That’s nothing new,” Chief Muterspaw said.

“It’s just that you are hearing about it because of social media.”

Chief Muterspaw said his officers have bought Christmas presents for local families in need and will be delivering food to the homeless during the holidays.

They will also be offering free rides to homeless locals so they can travel to see family if they want to.

He said helping those in need in their community is just something he and his officers do.

“I’m very proud of our officers,” he said.
