Emergency teams respond to US military plane crash near an International airport in Georgia

Emergency teams are responding to a US military aircraft crash just outside of Savannah Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia.

The plane went down at an intersection, leaving the highway next to the airport shut down as firefighters put out the blaze. The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association tweeting for people to steer clear of the area.

The Air Force confirmed the National Guard cargo aircraft had crashed but there are no details of injuries or the condition of those piloting the plane at this time.

The Savannah Morning News reports the C-130 plane was from the Air National Guard 165th Airlift Wing. It crashed around 11:30 a.m.

Witnesses told CNN, "the ground shook like a bomb was going off".
